Tips For Training Memory Systems

Expecting to get quick results and breaking world records without putting in the efforts to practice the basics is like building a skyscraper without a solid foundation. Not a wise thing to do! It is impossible to get to the next level and stay consistent without mastering the basics. There is no quick fix.

Success is neither magical nor mysterious.
Success is the natural consequence of consistently applying the basic fundamentals.

Mastering basic mnemonic techniques and your memory systems are essential before you set your mind on pushing the boundaries and accomplishing your goals. Here are some pitfalls to avoid and tips to get you started!

The Link Method

The link method or the Chain method is basically associating two or more images together such that each image acts as a cue to retrieve the previous or the next image. Sometimes when you link few images together, there is a possibility that you might jumble their order, especially when there is no preset order that you stick to.

To avoid such errors, establish certain rules on the placement of the images. The first image is always on top or left and the second image is always on the right or under the first image.

Practice linking a set of images in the most creative way possible and try going faster each time without compromising the visualization.

The Method of Loci

Associate images or stories and visualize them in a location that is familiar to you. It helps act as a cue to retrieve the stories or the images. Each journey has a set of locations in a particular preset order. But sometimes, when this order is not established properly, there is a possibility that the images or stories might get jumbled or mixed up. Make sure this does not happen and no locations are being skipped. Spend a few minutes going through the journeys in your mind every time you practice or before memorizing an event.

System Recognitions
